A First-Timer's Guide to the Shuto Night Run

Tokyo by day is a traffic jam. Tokyo by night is something else entirely — after dark, the Shuto Expressway becomes the “circuit of light” riders around the world dream about. From Kamakura, the entrance is one hour away.

The Route

Leave Kamakura at dusk and head north to Yokohama. Pass the Minato Mirai ferris wheel, cross the Bay Bridge, and the city becomes a tunnel of light.

  1. The Bay Bridge — the opening act: over Yokohama harbor with the lights of Minato Mirai at your back, the twin pylons rushing closer
  2. Bayshore Route (Wangan) — the coastal expressway from Yokohama to Tokyo. Long, fast lines with the bay glittering beside you
  3. The C1 Loop — 14.8km around Tokyo’s core. Building canyons, Ginza neon, corner after corner
  4. Daikoku PA — the legendary meeting spot on the way home. After midnight, Japan’s custom car and bike culture gathers here

What You Need to Know

  • Toll gates: take the GREEN「一般 / General」lane. Our bikes carry no ETC device — pay cash or card (details in the FAQ)
  • The C1 moves fast. Don’t chase the pace — hold the left lane and your own rhythm. The view comes to you
  • You’ll be back after midnight. This route crosses into the next day, so we recommend a multi-day rental — return the bike at your leisure tomorrow

Why a Chopper?

This is not a road to blitz on a sportbike. Rolling it slow on a V-twin is the whole point — neon flowing overhead, the exhaust note echoing off the elevated concrete. As a machine for feeling Tokyo at night, nothing else comes close.
