“Can we make it to Hakone?” — one of the most common questions at the shop. Yes, you can. As a day trip, with an onsen soak on the way home.
The Route
West from Kamakura on Route 134. Cruise the coast past Enoshima, Chigasaki and Oiso, then turn inland at Odawara. About 60 minutes to this point. Then the main event: the Hakone Turnpike.
The Turnpike: a 14km Climb
Fourteen kilometers, 1,000 meters of elevation, zero traffic lights — a dedicated uphill winding road. Corner after corner powered by V-twin torque; one of the best motorcycle roads in Japan. Go early (7–9 AM) and it’s nearly empty.
Toll gates are cash-friendly territory — our bikes carry no ETC device, so read the tolls section of the FAQ before you leave.
Taikanzan Lookout
At the top of the Turnpike: Lake Ashi in front of you, Mt. Fuji behind it. On weekend mornings this is where Kanto’s riders gather. Worth a coffee-length stop.
Tenzan: the Tattoo-Friendly Onsen
Then, the bath. Tenzan Tojikyo welcomes guests with tattoos — rare for a traditional bathhouse of this quality. Unwinding mountain-road muscles in an open-air bath is what completes this route. We recommend it to international guests without hesitation.
Day Trip or Overnight?
- Day trip: leave 10 AM → Turnpike → Taikanzan → Tenzan → ride Route 134 home at golden hour. A DAY RIDE covers it.
- Overnight: stay by Lake Ashi and you get the empty lakeside road and morning Fuji. See the MULTI-DAY plan.
