Kamakura looks small on a map and rides big in real life — temples in the hills, beaches on the bay, and Enoshima glittering offshore. Walking it means choosing. Buses mean queueing. A bike rental in Kamakura solves it, and an e-bike solves the part nobody warns you about: the hills.
No license needed. Sixteen or older, free helmets, insurance plans available, book the same day.
Why E-Bike Beats Everything Else Here
Kamakura’s sights are spread in a triangle: the station area, the Great Buddha to the west, the coast to the south. The connecting roads climb short, sharp hills that turn regular rental bicycles into pushing exercises. Our e-bikes flatten them — max 20 km/h, zero effort, full grin.
The Route (4-Hour Cruise Plan, ¥5,000)
Start — BEETLE RIDER, 4 min from the station. Quick setup, saddle check, and you’re rolling. (Where to find us)
1. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (5 min). Kamakura’s grand shrine. Park at the torii, walk the approach, watch the city line up behind you from the top of the steps.
2. The Great Buddha of Kotoku-in (15 min). Cut west through the lanes to the 13-meter bronze Buddha who has been sitting through typhoons since 1252. This is the leg where the e-bike earns its keep — the hill by the tunnel is no joke on a regular bicycle.
3. Hase & Yuigahama Beach (5 min). Roll downhill to the sand. In summer the beach houses are open; off-season it’s you, the surfers, and the hawks.
4. The Coastal Road to Enoshima (20 min). The best twenty minutes of the day. Ocean on your left the entire way along Route 134’s cycling side, with Enoshima growing bigger ahead of you. Lunch on the island — shirasu bowls are the local rite.
5. Return along the coast (25 min). Same road, reversed light. If you timed it right, the sun is dropping toward Fuji as you ride home.
Quick or All-Day?
- Quick Ride (2h, ¥3,500): Buddha + beach, tight and sweet.
- Cruise (4h, ¥5,000): the route above. Most popular for a reason.
- All Day (8h, ¥7,500): add Zushi and Hayama’s quiet coves, or simply go slower everywhere.
